Abstract
Weak value (WV) describes the amplified response of a meter when the measured system undergoes postselection. While conventional WV theory mainly rests on a single system-meter interaction setting, it remains unexplored whether WV can act as an effective pointer for sequential quantum measurements under postselection. Here we introduce the concept of WVs to the setting of sequential quantum measurements and quantum trajectories. We find that WV naturally emerges in postselected quantum trajectories of sequential weak measurements, by establishing a connection between the WV of the measured observable and the postselected statistics of quantum trajectories. Using sequential weak measurements on a qubit or an oscillator implemented by Ramsey interferometry with an ancilla qubit, we show that postselection shifts the collective record polarization away from the unconditioned ones, with an effective bias described by the WV. Our predictions are feasible to test in various platforms.
