Abstract
Vanishing-error recovery of a fusion qubit from a fixed-sector ground doublet of four Kramers--Wannier defects in a critical Ising chain requires at least the shorter three-defect span of physical spins to leading order. Across arbitrary preselected spin sets and unrestricted joint decoding, this bound holds when the thermodynamic limit precedes large spacings at fixed positive ratios. An exact interval decoder attains it. Collective records of both logical axes in the complement force successful near-minimal supports to concentrate in density on a leading-order shortest interval.
