Abstract
The Fröhlich-Pizzo (FP) model is a quantum-mechanical model originally developed to describe the interaction between an atom and the electromagnetic field in the nonrelativistic limit $c\to\infty$. We show that an adaptation of the FP model based on the local algebras of a $U(1)$ chiral current captures essential features of the horizon-induced decoherence mechanism identified by Danielson, Satishchandran, and Wald (DSW) in the limit of large holding time $T$. Our analysis suggests that the effective dynamics of the system undergoing decoherence in the DSW setting retains non-Markovian features. Our approach also offers a glimpse into the possible role of quantum events in the dynamics underlying horizon-induced decoherence.
