Abstract
We show that several potential-energy functions based on the exponential function $e^{-αr}$, $α> 0$, are either equivalent or identical to the Tietz potential. Some of those potentials exhibit redundant parameters that can be removed without affecting their performance for the description of the vibration-rotation spectra of diatomic molecules.
